How to Train Your Dragon: The Hidden World was released on January 3, 2019, in Australia, and on February 22 in the United States. It is the first DreamWorks Animation film to be distributed by Universal Pictures, after the end of their distribution deal with 20th Century Fox (which is now a subsidiary of The Walt Disney Company). Universal’s parent company NBCUniversal acquired DWA in 2016.[6] It received widespread praise from critics for its animation, action sequences, musical score, voice acting, characters, emotional weight of the story and conclusion.[7] It grossed over $519 million worldwide, becoming the fourth highest-grossing animated film of that year, as well as Universal’s highest-grossing animated film not to be produced by Illumination.
